A round trip describes a transport process in which a vehicle or means of transport travels from a starting point to one or more destinations and then returns to the original starting point. Round trips are often used to combine deliveries, collections, or internal transport tasks efficiently.

In logistics, optimized round trips help reduce empty runs, travel distances, transport times, and costs. Route planning and reliable information on goods, loading capacities, and destinations are important factors for efficient round-trip operations.

Practical example:
A truck delivers goods to several customers and collects return shipments or empty load carriers on its way back to the distribution center. Combining these transport tasks improves vehicle utilization and reduces unnecessary journeys.
