Master data entry refers to the structured collection and maintenance of basic information about products, goods, customers, suppliers, or logistics units. It creates the data foundation for efficient, automated, and error-free business and logistics processes.

In logistics, master data entry includes, for example, item numbers, dimensions, weight, volume, packaging information, and identification characteristics. Modern systems such as DWS systems, MDM solutions, and ERP or WMS systems support the automatic capture and updating of this data. High-quality master data enables reliable storage location planning, precise freight billing, optimized transport processes, and greater transparency throughout the supply chain.

Practical example:
When a new item is introduced, its length, width, height, and weight are automatically recorded and stored as master data in the ERP and warehouse management systems.
