Volume measurement refers to the determination of an object’s spatial volume based on its dimensions or three-dimensional sensor data. It provides important information for transportation, warehousing, and automated logistics processes.

In logistics, volume measurement is used to precisely determine the space required for packages, pallets, or other loading units. Modern measurement systems use lasers, LiDAR, cameras, or 3D sensors for this purpose and capture length, width, and height without physical contact. The data obtained supports master data entry, freight billing, transport planning, and the optimal utilization of warehouse and transport capacities.

Practical example:

Before shipment, a pallet is automatically measured so that its actual volume can be determined and used for optimal vehicle loading and freight calculation.
